摘要:
After the landing from a water environment, land plants and animals changed their body plan with or without responding to surrounding environments. Comparisons of development in several model animals showed that basal developmental gene regulatory networks were established at their common ancestor and subsequent modification caused present developmental diversity. In contrast to animals, comparisons of development in land plants were not possible because of the lack of feasible models with genome information and developmental studies in non-flowering plants. We published draft sequences of the lycopod Selaginella moellendorffii and the moss Physcomitrella patens genomes as the international consortia and substantial amounts of developmental studies were accumulated in P. patens, in which gene targeting is feasible. In this talk, I will summarize recent progresses on the evolution of development in land plants and discuss on the common mechanisms of development in land plants. As well as the common features, many specific and interesting developmental mechanisms evolved in specific lineages with resulting adaptation for specific environments are still unrevealed because of the difficulty in obtaining genome information and gene manipulation techniques. Technical advancement in genome sequencing and gene manipulation techniques makes possible to analyze non-model plants including carnivorous plants, Mimosa pudica, and Houttuynia cordata in my laboratory. I will also introduce our recent progress on the evolution of pitcher leaves and digestive enzymes in carnivorous plants.
